Shou Sugi Ban Facelift

This project started as an “ugly modern box” with too much cement board siding. We re-envisioned the façade with burnt cedar siding known as: shou sugi ban. It is a Japanese process of charring wood to protect it from weather and insects. The combination of rough charred siding with natural steel panels and clear cedar accents creates a captivating contrast of natural materials to give this façade a fresh and durable outcome.
